Coin Edge is a narrative-focused and data-driven consulting collective for early-stage quantum technology start-ups.

Founding Consultants

Mercedes Gilroy, Executive Producer

Mercedes is an optimistic nihilist, avid philosophical adventurer, and intentional meaning maker. Throughout her career, she has been an enthusiastic supporter of STEAM initiatives that emphasize the value of curiosity, courage, and critical thinking. Her goal is to empower leaders at quantum technology start-ups to make the leap from research to commercialization with aplomb.

Always on the lookout for exceptional humans with whom to solve exciting problems, she is an unapologetic interrogative explorer. Her favourite activity is indulging in freudenfreude– delighting in the happiness of others.

Anna Aldred, Lead Operations Consultant

Anna bakes a mean sourdough, writes great meeting summaries, and drives a hard bargain. She’s a data-nerd with a big heart and a keen eye for pinpointing opportunities to streamline your growth engine.

Her experience working with bootstrapped founders on the ground floor has allowed her to unlock the secrets of 1000% YOY growth and scaling to 10M ARR. She’s a specialist in demand generation, paid media, marketing operations and revenue operations.

If you’ve never met a dataset you didn’t love, you’ll get along great. True also of puppies and beach reads. Not true of marketing automation software.

Erin Bow

Storytelling

Erin grew up tromping through woodlots and reading books by flashlight. In retrospect, it seems natural that the Captain of the debate team and Founder of the math club would study particle physics and work at the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN), but the path was a truly random walk.

Since then, Erin has published six novels, winning the Newbery Honor, the Governor General’s Award, the Canadian Library Association Book of the Year award, and the TD Canadian Children's Literature Award.

Among her favourite life experiences are: living with Kazakh nomads; opening for Margaret Atwood; and ghostwriting for Stephen Hawking.

Katrina Bell

Prospect Research

Katrina helps bold leaders understand the human relationships that power their business, providing personalized insight to support building meaningful partnerships. She believes data is most valuable when it illuminates the why behind people’s decisions.
For Katrina, research isn’t just about data points, it’s about empowering innovators with the clarity and confidence to make bold, informed decisions in fast-moving markets. She thrives on helping founders navigate uncertainty with focus and foresight. And yes, like you, she’s probably got more tabs open right now than she should.

Thinking at the Edge

One of our statistics profs used to say, “The distribution for a coin flipped any number of times should be half heads and half tails. If not, you haven’t flipped it long enough.” But what happens in that serendipitous moment when it does neither, but lands on its edge? These are the exciting opportunities we’re looking for– slipping through the spaces between expectations.

Pink does not exist. However, we acknowledge that perception defines our reality. We believe that diverse perspectives allow you to see more than just two sides of the coin. Building a strong strategy starts with intentionally seeking good foils. We’re ready to join you in reimagining your journey to realize quantum potential.

Leanne Cherry

Science Writing

Leanne is dedicated to making science clear, compelling, and accessible for all. She believes that an informed public is the foundation of a strong democracy and that storytelling is a powerful tool for bridging the gap between complex ideas and everyday understanding. She contributes to The Tribune, McGill’s student newspaper, as a writer and editor and most recently, she’s been honing her craft on the marketing team at IBM Quantum. Leanne sees her work as a way to foster trust in science and spark curiosity in the next generation of thinkers, dreamers, and doers.

Like many of us, she can feel overwhelmed by the big questions, but she’s learning that small, thoughtful conversations are where the magic begins.
